Connecting the Dots

russellbyrob.jpg

I was born in a small state, some time after a large war. I started singing before I can remember and eventually spent second and third grade in a Tennessee church choir.

Then I grew up in so many places that I started speaking Spanish and Hawaiian.

Age 17 found me on top of a barge on the Norfolk Broads, England, learning to play guitar. I played college parties with my Sussex University roommate and later went to London where I wrote songs for an Italian countess and a film treatment for an Italian film producer.

I collaborated with the artistic director of the Mercury Theatre to bring the underground to Bordeaux, where I played cabaret while writing a musical commissioned for the Festival Internationale de Jeune Theatre in Aix-en-Provence.

Afterwards I toured North Africa with friends, playing markets, restaurants, and tea shops in the freest lifestyle I have ever lived. I toured England as a theater musician and America as half of a music/comedy duo.

I spent the next year recording, with band members of the Count Bishops, a master tape of the pop/rock musical performed in France. I delivered the tape, as promised, to an exec at NEMS Music in Grosvenor Square, where it probably sits to this day.

Now I live in a state of California most of the time.

I took a long break to establish a family and my roots in the same Santa Clara Valley where I was once a child.

I have spent the last few years studying and developing my music, including theory, production, vocals and guitar, in formats including bel canto, choir, gospel, blues, latin, swing, world music, orchestral, and songs that people want to sing.

I have three legally grown-up children who give me three different kinds of trouble and the same kind of joy, and a wife who is with me all the way.

All stories true and verifiable
